NCSBN conducts an examination on behalf of the councils of the constituent (nursing advice 50shtatah, District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Marianas, and the Virgin Islands)

Types of Examination

There are two types of exams: NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurse) and NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurse)
If you received a nursing education at home and want to work in this profession in an American clinic, you will need to take the NCLEX-RN.

Purpose

The purpose of the examination - to evaluate the level of knowledge and skills necessary for safe and effective nursing practice.

The format of the Exam

NCLEX is carried out in a computer-adaptive format (CAT) Pearson VUE organization in one of the network test centers Pearson Professional Centers (PPC).
Feature of the test is that it evaluates the compliance of candidates' knowledge of pre-established standards, without comparing their results with other test. Candidates who meet the standards are tested. To pass the NCLEX does not provide a specific number of correct answers.

The computer selects each new question based on how you answered the previous one. Therefore, the form of the test is different for each candidate. On how you will respond to questions, will also depend on the total number (between 75 and 265). Only 60 of the first 75 responses will be utilized. The remaining 15 questions - "test", they will be used in the following examinations, so it's best to answer all questions. If you often come across questions from one category, it may mean that the NCSBN testing this type of questions, or that you answer them correctly. In this case, the computer will generate questions in this category in a random order, as long as you do not start to respond correctly.
On the test is given a maximum of 6 hours. During the test, you will be provided with 2 breaks: required and optional. Mandatory break will start in two and a half hours after the start of the test, optional - four. The duration of the break - 10 minutes. During the test, is also allowed to take breaks at any time, but in this case it's time to be subtracted from the total time allotted for the exam.
NCLEX covers a lot of material from the different areas of medicine. The main criterion for evaluation will be your ability to think critically during making decisions.
